Ukrainian singer Alina Pash won the international award for young artists who present the sound of today and tomorrow.
Other winners of the Music Moves Europe Awards 2022 were Denise Chaila (Ireland), Deva (Hungary), Meskerem Mees (Belgium), Mezerk (France) and Blanks (Netherlands). The prestigious Grand Jury Prize was awarded to Meskerem Mees, and the Public Choice Award was given to one of this year's nominees, Ladaniva (Armenia).
The award ceremony took place on January 20 during one of the key events in the music industry - the ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) showcase festival in Groningen, the Netherlands.
Alina Pash and other Music Moves Europe Awards winners were selected by an expert jury consisting of Gemma Bradley (BBC Radio 1), Cindy Castillo (Mad Cool Festival), Kevin Cole (KEXP), Bryan Johnson (Spotify) and an honorary member of the jury - Ukrainian rapper alyona alyona, last year's winner in the Public Choice 2021 nomination. In different years, Rosalía, Meduza, Bishop Briggs, Aya Nakamura, girl in red and Pale Waves were among the winners of the EU-co-funded MMEA award for popular contemporary music.
According to the MMEA 2022 jury, it was extraordinary to discover so many talented European artists, and the nominees surprised them with their musical diversity and artistry.
In particular, jury told that Alina Pash is "really exciting and unique artist and they can really tell what she stands for straight away."
In addition, The Music Moves Europe Award winners receive € 10.000,- each. The winner of the Grand Jury Award wins an additional green touring voucher worth € 5.000. The winner of the Public Choice Award receives € 5.000. Each nominee is also offered the opportunity to attend a training day at ESNS to further their skills in internationalising their careers, representing a value of € 1.250 per artist. The Business Education Training day includes keynotes, expert meetings and training sessions.
The Music Moves Europe Awards are the The European Union Prize for popular and contemporary music. The aim of the awards is to celebrate upcoming European artists and support them in developing their international careers.
The awards succeed the European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA) and the Music Moves Europe Talent Award (MMETA), supported and handed out by the European Union since 2004 and co-funded by the Creative Europe programme. The Prize has an impeccable track record, awarding artists including Stromae, Adele, Mumford & Sons, Dua Lipa, Rosalía, Meduza, Lous and the Yakuza, Inhaler and last year's winner alyona alyona. Each of these artists have since reached new levels of fame and success in the global music industry.
