Landcommanderij Alden Biesen

Short description

Alden Biesen is one of the largest castle sites in the heart of Europe. It was founded over 800 years ago and served as one of the most prestigious headquarters of the Knights of the Teutonic Order. 

Today Alden Biesen is owned by the Flemish Government and plays an important part as cultural hub. We organize over 500 activities and receive over 250.000 visitors per year. Activities focus on MICE (congresses, lectures, workshops, concerts, storytelling events…) own activities (educational projects, storytelling, heritage…)  and tourism.

Our team consists of 40 employees for operations (kitchen, cleaning and technical service) and administration (conferencing and events, culture, infrastructure, bookkeeping, marketing and general administration).

We have been participating in European projects like Erasmus+ and Creative Europe since 1998 both as coordinator and as partner.

Resulting in projects like Sheherazade (1001 stories for adult learning), Ginco Tools and Training, Tales (Tales and Learning in European Schools) InHerit (Heritage Interpretation for Adult Learning, EU-heritage, Delphi (Development of Continuing Professional Development for Heritage Interpretation). We are currently a partner in the Creative Europe project ‘Cassandra’ on socially engaged storytelling for young storytellers.
